Merry Christmas

by Stephanie Cunningham on 12/15/11

I can't belive it's 1.5 weeks to Christmas and the leaves are just now falling off the trees!  It's been an interesting leaf season, some of the trees lost there leaves in the summer due to the drought and others are still green.  Does anyone know why the Bradford Pears still have leaves on them?  They are starting to fall now regardless.  I guess we know what we'll be doing in January this year.  We reserve the week before Christmas to do all our regular lawn maintenance customers.  If you need a leaf job done before Christmas, let us know now because time is running out.  It's also raining this week which is great and I will always be happy for rain, we need it after a hot dry summer, but it also complicates our efforts to get all the leaves cleaned up before Christmas, so the point of this story is call now cause time is running out.

We do hope you all have a very Merry Christmas.  We are spending Christmas here for the first time ever.  We usually hit Wyoming with my parents and enjoy the snow but with 2 kids and 1 on the way, things have changed.  We are looking forward to being home this year and we've been having fun teaching the kids about giving through inner city Fort Worth caroling and gift giving and secret agent Christmas providing gifts for poorer families.  Samuel is developing a very generous heart and that makes me very proud.  Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you and make sure you are looking for ways to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas and give to others.

Landscape Installation

by Stephanie Cunningham on 10/04/11

I do landscape design and we have a crew that does installation.  We had the chance to work on a few projects this spring before it got too hot and we just installed one today.  The plant material from the nursery was in great shape and wow, did it make a difference!  If you aren't enjoying your landscape, do something about it.  I'll come out, with kids in tow, and go over your landscape and start coming up with a plan to add some new plants or flower beds if needed, replace plants that don't fit the area, or talk about bringing in the flower bed cleanup crew to pull weeds, trim shrubs and mulch the flower beds.  You'd be amazed at how much better mulched flower beds can make your home look.  Plus, there are so many great benefits to having mulch in you flower beds.  Enjoy the pictures and start dreaming about what we can do for your home.

Things to do now

by Stephanie Cunningham on 09/20/11

There may still be some hot days ahead but for the most part we are in fall!  What do you need to do now?  Definatly have a sprinkler check done.  We can help to fine tune your system so that plants don't become stressed from lack of water.  The next most important thing is to topdress your lawn.  It was way too hot and dry and all the microorganisms are no longer in the root zone for your grass.  Adding organic matter (compost) will bring life back into that area.  It's only when the microorganisms are alive and active in your soil that the "plant food" is broken down into something the plants can actually eat.  Following with a foliar spray will increase your rate of recovery.  You may still need to replace some plants and some sod, but this will help what you have left to recover.

People ask why this plant died and not the one next to it, or why half died.  It's because it is a living organism and as such, it reacts to water, food and air differently from all the other plants around.  Maybe there's a giant rock under it's roots keeping it from getting good root growth.  Maybe a mole tunneled under it and the roots dry out to quickly.  Maybe it just isn't a strong plant or it gets just a little too much sun or too little sun or too much water or not enough.  Just because they are the same kind of plant and in the same location doesn't mean they will respond the same way.  And if it struggled last year, but you've forgotten, then it may have given up this year.  It may have gotten too cold this winter.  There are a lot of reasons.  Gardening is an active endeavor, there are always things to replace and care for.

Almost the hottest year on record

by Stephanie Cunningham on 08/14/11

We came so close it would have been nice to have claimed it but after the much needed much appreciated rain on Saturday we'll be happy with second longest 100 degree streak.  What a beating we've had this summer and the guys have sure felt it as well.  We switched to a shorter work day to help survive the heat and as a result have had to move a few yards to Saturday to get through everyone.  Once the weather cools down again we can switch back but this was important to our guys health and safety.  Outside is no place to be after 3pm!!  Thank you for your understanding and thank you for the Gatorades handed out to the guys, they really appreciate it.

It's Hot!!

by Stephanie Cunningham on 07/20/11

I don't know if you've noticed yet or not, but it is hot and for those of us that work outside, it is killer hot.  We are surviving but ready for the oven to be turned off.  One of the biggest problems we are noticing on our customers lawns right now are the irrigation system.  Because it has been so hot and dry you can really see where the system is not working correctly and, if you have lush green grass in an area you might want to have it looked at for a possible leak.  Take a look at your yard and landscape and if you notice problems your system probably needs repaired or corrected.  Another important thing is to not over water.  You should water longer if you need more water or set up a second start time to cycle and soak but don't increase the number of days to more then three.  Give us a call or email if you have questions.
